I hadn’t thought of it like that. Although the like buttons (outside of the FB site) seem like they fall more in the ad category.

They’re tracking whether you’re logged into FB or not (or have never had a FB account).

To be clear, I’m not suggesting FB tracking is better/good, but there is at least some level of consent from registered users.
